I fell in love with the Redondo style from
Apt 2B and decided to spend what I thought as a seemingly ridiculous amount on a beautiful and what I envisioned as a handcrafted piece of furniture that was solid wood and built/designed to last a lifetime….. I can honestly say after 5 years of ownership and what I would consider “light” use that even after yr 1 it was a seemingly constant battle to upgrade the design with use of larger screws/bolts/ brackets etc. to keep the bed frame from flexing and squeaking under normal use. Although it was in fact made of solid wood, it was not designed with hardware to stand the test of time. To this day I am still designing brackets and re-inventing ways to keep this beautiful piece of furniture as a useful object in my home from falling apart in front of my eyes. Design improvements include : adding solid oak slats to accommodate a mattress only without a box spring(as supposedly designed), adding headboard bolts that go through wood rather than screw into threaded “inserts”, adding teflon strips to reduce creaking when entering or exiting the bed…. Currently working on ways to further stabilize metal brackets that have started to pull from mounting locations and/or re-design new new and stronger brackets as what should have been installed for a $2k bed frame. At best? Not pleased with the durability and craftsmanship at this price point.
Thanks for your helpful and honest feedback and we're so sorry to hear of all of the difficulties you've experienced over the past 5 years of ownership of your Redondo Pier bed! We sincerely appreciate good feedback, be it good or bad, and we have passed this feedback on to management and our buying team for review. We took a quick look at historical feedback for this particular piece and we honestly don't have very much in the way of issues being reported. So sorry to hear that you have had a different experience, however, that is truly disappointing.
